Why Is My Heat Pump Running But Not Cooling Properly?

A heat pump that runs but won’t cool usually has restricted airflow, an incorrect thermostat setting, dirty coils or filters, or a refrigerant issue. Change or clean the filter monthly. Our EPA-certified techs measure airflow, verify refrigerant charge, check for leaks, tighten electrical terminals, and confirm thermostat operation. Schedule tune-ups twice a year in spring and fall to prevent cooling loss. We service all brands in Champaign and Urbana.

Quick checks:

  • Set thermostat to Cooling and lower the setpoint.
  • Replace/clean the air filter.
  • Keep indoor vents and the outdoor unit clear of obstructions.
