What Is Preventive Maintenance for HVAC Systems and Why Is It Important?

Preventive maintenance for HVAC systems is a scheduled tune-up and safety inspection that cleans, tests, and adjusts heating and cooling equipment to keep it efficient and reliable. Most breakdowns start with dirt buildup, clogged drains, or loose electrical connections that drive up energy use and wear parts. We perform these visits in Mahomet and surrounding Champaign–Urbana communities. Our Comfort Family memberships include one spring and one fall HVAC tune-up with priority response for repairs.

Typical tasks include:

  • Clean burners/heat exchangers; verify ignition and flame.
  • Tighten electrical connections; lubricate moving parts.
  • Measure airflow; test thermostat; replace or provide common filters.
  • Clear and treat condensate drains; complete system cleaning.

If you notice odd noises, water around the unit, or repeated shutdowns, turn the system off and call a technician.
