What should I do if my water filtration system stops working?

If your water filtration system stops working, put it in bypass to restore basic water flow, then check power (or GFCI), system shutoff valves, and any error lights before using filtered water again. The most common cause is a clogged prefilter or an RO postfilter that needs replacement; softeners often stop treating when salt is low or a regeneration is overdue. Our licensed plumbers support systems in and around De Land with evaluation, repair, and replacement as needed.

Try these targeted checks next:

  • Replace overdue filter cartridges and reset any change-filter indicators.
  • For reverse osmosis, confirm the tank valve is open and replace the postfilter if flow is a trickle after the tank refills.
  • For water softeners, verify salt level, clean the brine well, and run a manual regeneration if hardness returns.
  • Call right away if you see leaks, rust-colored water, a sulfur odor, or house-wide low pressure.

Do not drink water that tastes, smells, or looks unusual until the system is inspected.
